Although prisons in one form or another have been around for thousands of years, uniforms like striped convicts uniform outfits really did not come into use until the nineteenth century, when sociologists like Jeremy Bentham and Cesare Beccaria instituted the idea that discipline, aside from simply serving prison sentences, would be more effective in reforming criminals.
